Hey dont give up on the Aztek, I also went through a few growing pains with my 01 Aztek, but things are looking up.  Im still happy with my Tek and I think that now that all the gremlins are ironed out it will continue to serve me well.

Sorry, you missed the lesson completely.  Other folks in other years have had problems with everything you have.

THE LESSON is, NEVER buy ANY new car without purchasing an extended warranty.

ANY new car can have problems, and every car will have a problem sometime during its life.

With all the Government regulations, cars are very complicated and very expensive to repair.  

Almost any major repair will cost more than the warranty...

I'm sorry that you mised the lesson...

That's true, but I put an average of 3000 miles a month on my cars, so extended warranty's have never been much value to me.  This is my 15th new car since I started working 23 years ago and this is the first time that I have ever had to  make any major repairs!   Lucky for me, it was a friend that was the mechanic and not the service department at the dealer.  $1500 was alot better than the estimated over $3000 from the them!

Just for future information.  I didn't know if you were aware of it or not, but the GM extended warranties are flexible in terms of the time/mileage available.  That is you can get some that will give you a lower time limit, say 36 or 48 months and then a longer mileage limit 72K or even up to 100K (I believe that is the highest).  That would sure beat the standard 36K warranty.

Sorry to hear that the repairs were so costly.  I hope that this is the end of these types of repairs for your Tek and that you can enjoy it once again.

Sorry to hear of your problems :cry1:
But the first year issue , IS NOT TRUE

I have an 01 Tek with one problem, the sticky hatch and
a 02 Avalanche [both first year GM vehciles] with only a alternator problem at 36K mi
The 02-03 Avalanches have been nighmares for some owners

This has been said many times but worth repeating again
Many many problems that arise over and over are cause by dealer inferiority and by not being fixed properly the first time

Cheesy Well, after driving my "new" tek (feels like new after being in the shop for so long), I think that I have decided that I will give it a chance!  I really do enjoy how they drive and my girls can't wait until we use it for the 4th of July fireworks!  


So, if I can fix one last problem with it... now the airbag light won't go out!  I searched and found someone had that problem with some wires under one of the front seats.  

Maybe, nothing else will go wrong and I can enjoy driving my unusual choice for a while longer!

I do enjoy driving something that not everybody has and that stands out in the parking lot!
