Is this safety check something I have to bypass in the stereo or the vehicle? I have the "Brake Check" wire from my stereo connected to the ground right now and I can't get any video to play, even with the vehicle in park and the parking brake on. Anyone else have issues with this?

I'm getting ready to do the same setup in our 'tek, and found a site that will probably help you with your problem.  Most good name brand head units won't let you do DVD/Navigation controls while the car isn't in park, but the simple circuit here:  http://www.mnsportcompacts.net/forum/showthread.php?94769-The-hands-free-way-to-bypass-your-parking-brake-wire  should do the trick.  Just uses a relay connected to the amp cut on circuit, which pulses the brake line on the radio, fooling it into working.  If you've got navigation on your headunit, it may not bypass with this though, as some of them read your GPS speed, or use motion detection to disable those features.

Ya well it was cheap and I don't have a lot of money to be spending on things like this. It works fine, just some little things I have to iron out.

@juicestain09 did you manage to sort out the parking brake issue? What kind of stereo do you have?

Sorry for being off-topic. I'm looking for a good stereo and can't make my mind up which one is the best.

There are so many aftermarket stereos that it's hard to find a good one. Many of them have one digit difference in their name. Anyways I've been reading reviews on the nets and they are all hype. Most of them downplay the negatives and hype features like 7" as if it would be that important. I've found a different blog. The thing I liked about this blog is that it says it how it is. No sugar coating no BS. Even so there are ten or more head units on the site. How to pick the right one?

Is the parking brake bypass a thing for all the stereos? Any tips?
