When I bought my Aztek used it didn't come with a keyless remote. I assumed all the azteks came with that option, so I bought a remote on ebay. I tried to program the Aztek with the instructions I found here. I can not get the Tek into program mode. No chims.....are these the right instructions?
1. Close all doors.
2. Press and hold the Unlock button on door lock switch on drivers door.
Hold until instructed to release.
3. Insert and remove key from ignition 2 times. Do Not turn ignition.
4. Insert key in ignition a third time and leave key in ignition. Do Not turn ignition.
5. Release door lock switch on drivers door panel.
A Chime will sound 3 times indicating that you are in programming mode.
6. Press both the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote up to 30 seconds.
A chime will sound 2 times if remote has programmed successful.
7. Repeat step 6 if you are programming additional remotes.
8. Remove key from ignition to exit programming mode.

why don't u run ur vin on compnine to make sure u don't have keyless entry???

You can confirm keyless entry fairly easily. If you pull of the dash trim piece under the windshield (the one that has the automatic light sensor in it) then look down between the defrost duct and the rest of the dash you should see an electronic module with a connector going in to it. That is the keyless entry. If I remember right it is on the passenger side of the defrost duct. If that unit is present then you should have keyless entry. If it's not there there should at least be an empty connector where it could be plugged in.

If you can't fix it yourself, redesign it since it was obviously poorly designed to begin with, otherwise you could fix it yourself. Right?

Checked comp nine....it says

for my vin....so does that mean I have keyless entry? or is it possible i am reading it wrong

It should I don't think any Azteks made didn't come with remote access.

Still can't get this to work. I verified I have keyless entry, but I can not get the tek into program mode. I do not have the dic in my car. Is there another way to program with pulled fuses for Astros without the dic?

I scanned through my Service manual (an electronic "set") and according to what I read, that programming sequence only works for the 2001's. The remaining years only list a way to do it using a Tech2 scan tool (Read: take it to the dealer...) Certainly makes that cheap remote off eBay a lot more expensive. You might check around at some of your local garages, they MIGHT have a Tech2, and be willing to do the programming cheaper than the dealer. Just my 2 cents, but I think it's an abomination that stuff like that and all of the manufacturer specific OBDII stuff is not accessible via a garden variety OBDII reader. There might be some computer based OBDII interfaces that can do it, but I don't know. ~aeric

I know this is an old thread, but I just programmed my 2005 replacement key fobs using the instructions provided by the original poster. My service manual says you need a scan tool, but I didn't find that necessary. Maybe this will help the next person.

I'm going to add that those instructions also worked for my 2003 Aztek FWD.
No need for a scan tool.
I would also add that ALL remotes you are using with your Aztek must be present and all must be added (or re-added) during the session. For instance, if you only had one key fob and wanted to add a 2nd one, you put your Aztek in programming mode (steps 1 thru 5) then perform step 6 for both the original fob AND the new one.
For those new to the Aztek, there is also a way for you to program your own keys without having to visit the dealer. You can do it yourself as long as you have at least one working key. Search the forums for the procedure....
