I got rear-ended a few years ago and it cracked the plastic trim piece on the tailgate (where the license plate attaches).  I managed to find a replacement but can't figure out how to get the broken one off.  I can't see a screw, bolt or attachment hardware of any kind. All clips?

Anyone with a schematic or advice would be appreciated.

In the 2005 Service Manual, here's what they write:
1. Relase the locking tabs on the lift gate trim panel access panel.
2. Remove the wing nuts from the studs on the lift gate applique.
3. Remove the lift gate applique nuts.
4. Partially remove the lift gate applique to access the electrical connector.
5. Disconnect the lift gate applique electrical connector.
6. Remove the lift gate applique.
7. Remove the license plate lamp sockets from the lift gate applique.
8.  Remove the lift gate applique lamp sockets from the lift gate applique.
9. Remove the backup lamp sockets and harness from the lift gate applique.

Strange they call that piece an applique. Sounds like you're in a sewing class. There is a picture and you can see it's the piece that has the license plate, which is called the lift gate applique. You will have to remove the inside liftgate trim panel and then also the water deflector. Our trim panel is off, but it still has the water deflector but you can tell what they describe is what is needed to remove it.

Hope that helps.
