Post by: CanadianAztek on September 03, 2005, 07:45:14 AM

I can help out for sure. I was talking to some others here, and thinking of trying to do one in Niagara Falls in the future. What do you think about that? It's central to where we can have both Americans and Canadians show up.

CanadianAztek,

As far as determining how much effort is involved, depends upon what you want to do at the rally, how much you want to pay for out of your pocket and how much you want the attendees to pay.

I would also like to lend a hand in terms of advice and experience.  Please pose any questions you might have.

I would say that probably the first step is to determine the location.  Keep in the back of your mind what activities you want when selecting that location, coupled with how long you want it to last.  For example, if it will be a three day event you will needs places for camping and non-camping owners to stay.  So you or one of your organizers will have to scout out campgrounds and motels.  I would recommend finding a location near to you, so that you can visit the sites and talk to the owners directly instead of over the phone.  Plus keep in mind what activities you want.  Do you want it strickly social?  Do you want to involve a dealership?  Technical Training? Cruising? Strictly Social?  You will want to make sure that the site you pick can handle whatever events that you have planned.

That should get you started.  Once you have that decided then the next step is the date of the event and guage how many owners are interested (so that you can determine if the campground/motel has openings - they kind of go hand in hand).  I would recommend selecting only one date.  Having multiple dates just confuses the issue.  Try to see ahead of time the best date(s) for the campground/motel first.  Then pose the question of interest to the owners here, giving them a rough idea what you have planned.

Just a little planning and no hard work needed :ignore:

We refer to the "Rally" as the major event usually occuring more than one day , sponsors help, Pontiac dealers and try to draw many members
or
you can plan a GTG [get together]
a one day quick meet or fellow TEk owners and a simple meet and greet, cookout or lunch/dinner somewhere

I've started to wonder what the difference is.

It seems like the GTGs are now lasting all weekend with immense planning in them.  And it sounds like the Rally next year won't involve Pontiac or a dealership or the amusement park, so wouldn't that just be a GTG with sponsors?

It seems to me that the terms Rally and GTG are evolving.  I guess in the traditional sense, the gathering we had a few weeks ago here in Detroit could have been called a Rally, as it lasted from Friday through Sunday.  Whether you call your event a Rally, GTG, Extended GTG or even a Mini Rally, it is a celebration of bringing Aztek Owners together and that is what is most important. Perhaps maybe some of the definitions should change and/or some new terms be added to the events (subject of another post though).

I would have to agree with AZteXtasy when he mentions with just a little planning and no hard work is needed.  It will be all of what you make it.  Preplanning will save you a lot of time and effort in the long run.  It also helps if you can get a couple other local owners to help (which I have done in the past).  This last time, my wife (also a member here), helped me put together our last Detroit GTG.  Find out what the others have for ideas and work to establish assignments for everyone.  Typical assignments for these vary depending on what activities you want but here is a quick list: Campgrounds, Motel, Agenda, Sponsors, Itinerary, Food (obtaining and cooking - although you can do a pot-luck type thing), training, sporting event (softball, soccer, dodgeball whatever), amusement park, water park, cider mill, cruise, Aztek show, etc.
