Hello all,
I am Mark Baker aka Coolerman.  I was contacted by Greg Foulks concerning some LED cup holder lights that I build for the Nissan Xterra.
He has sggested that some of you may be interested in these lights if I could develope a kit for them. Go here CoolKits for a list of some of the kits I have developed for the Nissan Xterra.
If I can find someone willing to send me some pics of the cup holders in the Aztek, take some measurements, and determine where to tap into the dimmer controls I can build these cup holder illuminator kits for you.

I will check in here when I can but if you would email me directly or better yet let Greg be the contact point for ideas and questions.
I am going on vacation next week but will check this board through out today...  Nice 'meeting' you all!

Mark,
Thanks for joining the board! You will soon see that many of us Tek owners want to spice our rides up  :cooldude:

We have an owner here on the board (AztekAndrew) and he owns the complete service manual which will be useful for finding where to tap into to power the LEDs.

Pictures of the cupholders won't be a problem since many of us have digital camera's.

Check out the gallery for pictures of different Teks and mods that many are working on.

Tom- Can you take a couple of pictures today and post?

This is going to be fun!

Yes, a service manual will have the schematics showing wire colors and such.

AztekAndrew what I need is an easy to access location to tap into the dimmer wires.  It should be as close as possible to the cupholders.  On the Xterra the dimmer wires actually run right underneath the cupholders  Cheesy  Basically the dimmer wires run where ever there are lights that dim when you use the dimmer.  The key is EASY access to them.  I need to know the colors of them so can make labels for the connectors.

You should be able to tap into the backlight for the shifter. Assuming your kit will be 12VDC.

Indeed it is and that is exactly where the Xterra kit taps into!
That would make it a lot easier to install also...

I will be on vacation next week but will check in when I return to see if more info is here.
Looking forward to a new customer base  :blol:

Also I noticed that the time on the server seems to be incorrect? Or is this site located in England?  Wink

Mark,
You may need to set your timezone? Click on My Controls and select board settings. You should now be able to select the time zone your in which will correct the times being posted.

Here is the scoop on the wiring.    From the schematic "Interior Lights Dimming Schmematics"

The wiring comes from the center fuze panel as a gray wire.  This wire splits into nine gray wires at junction S203.  Some go the the instruments panel, DIC, and HUD switch, etc.  One of these gray wires runs to the "Shift Lever Position Indicator Lamp" which should be just below and to the left of the cup holders.

Let me know if you need further circuit description.

Ok I'm back from vacation!
Thanks for the info Andrew. That should do it for the electrical side of things.  Now can someone take some pics of the cup holders and post them or send them to coolerman@qx.net? Also do the holders have removable liners?

Great pics Andrew!  OK here is what I need now, someone to try the install of a prototype!
I will GIVE the proto-type kit to the first person that will install it and help document the install procedure.  It needs to be someone
familiar with drilling holes and tapping into wiring and such. Also a camera for pics will help.

Send me a mailing address (coolerman@qx.net) and choose a color for the LEDS. Colors are: Red, yellow, blue, green, white.  These are BRIGHT
LEDs and some care needs to be taken to choose a mounting location that will  not interfere with your night vision.
I can dim them down some if it turns out it's necassary...

I will send the kit to the FIRST person who meets the above qualifications and sends me their address...(coolerman@qx.net)

I will work with this person to find the best place to mount them.  Once we have a set working we will document the install with pics,
determine if there will be a pricing difference from my existing Xterra kits (there should not be) and post the link to the install.

Again if you want to see what kits I currently make: CoolKits

Let the race begin!
