Bat-Tek Forever.

Howdy all,

So the bat-tek is going on a little adventure in the next few days. About 2800 miles worth of an adventure!

Yup yup, me and the beast are driving from what has been my home here in Spokane for the last four years (college) to my new job in New Hampshire!!
We are stopping along the way at my parents house in Minnesota so it's not a straight shot, thank goodness.
And I plan on visiting my trusted mechanic when I am in MN to get everything all serviced because the bat-tek is nearing 96k miles and I want her running beautifully for the east coast driving..

Also I think I have just completed the greatest pack job in the history of the human race.. All of my belongings are now in the tek, and there is room for my partner in crime too! Just another reason, the aztek rules!

Photos to come..

Thanks guys!

Wow so I love the aztek, it is running solid. And it is super full, only a few inches of clearance above the wheel wells. We have stopped safely in Rapid City SD after about 15 hours on the road.

But along the way, in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming my windshield wipers intersected and broke (dang invertedness). So I took off the one on the passenger (it seems to be pretty bent) and replaced with a sock tied up in a plastic bag (works pretty well).  I think the rotor like missed a gear and thats why they intersected. I plan on just fixing it when I get back home, another 8 hours. How would one go about fixing this problem?

Thanks

You'll have to pull the arms and reset them, or at least the one that has moved. You may find that the mounting post has stripped out, allowing the arm to move.

Please elaborate, pull the arms where and how? Thanks!

They are bolted onto the post that rotates. You'll take off the plastic cover that looks like a cap nut to expose the real nut. That post has splines that the arm mates to. Those splines strip away if the arms get stuck.

Sounds a lot like the trip I'm about to take in Puma in a few weeks when I move out to L.A. from Orlando!  My wipers did that about a month ago too, bent the passenger side and everything.  I just got new wipers since the ones on there were original to the car when I bought it in '07.

Hope your trip is safe!

Alright, I will take a look at the wiper now we have 'landed' safety home in MN.

Also my tek is nearing 96k; is there any maintenance recommended for this mileage? I am thinking about taking it in to the shop I trust here but my father told me he does not like to get things done right before he road trips in case something goes wrong.. Any thoughts?

Good luck with the trip call4help! Safe travels!

EDIT: Update on the windshield wipers: I bought a new one and installed in. And now it works fine.. Sweet..

Dang, good call AK! Sorry all, I have been AWOL lately. I have been preoccupied with finding an apt, furnishing it and then I just started my job yesterday so these times be busy! And for quite a few days there I didnt have interwebs in my apt (I was tethering a 2g connection from my phone.. sooo slow)

But I will hopefully get some photos uploaded in the next few nights and also if I am feeling super ambitious I will try and get the stopmotion video together (if my 5 year old macbook's 1GB RAM can handle over 1000 photos at once in imovie..)

Photos!  ... Also I got the stopmotion video finished and will hopefully upload it soon.

Here is the bat-tek at a nice, cheap hotel in Rapid City SD (sorry these photos will be out of order b/c they are sporadically stored between my HD, laptop, and memory cards)

And here was our temporary windshield wiper contraption that I mentioned from earlier..

more to come..
