Hello all,

So my Aztek recently started acting up. My dashboard displays security light, then the battery light comes on and the  dashboard seems to lose power and goes dark for a few seconds. Then everything comes back on and it keeps security on constantly then my guagues dont move, my fuel goes to empty and instead of miles it says ERROR. My headlights and all other exterior lights seem to shut off too for a few seconds and then turn back on. I had car checked and the alternator and battery are in good condition, they couldn't figure out what was wrong so they didn't charge me, they said the best thing they could think of was going to the dealer and seeing if they had an answer. Anyone have any idea what could be going on? My car doesnt turn off at all, it continues running perfectly fine even with dead battery light on. He only has 97,xxx miles. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated if not I guess Ill take it to dealer tuesday or wednesday

Thanks,
Jose

Hi Jose,

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, hopefully this is in time to be helpful. What you're decribing sounds like a BCM (Body Control Module I think) issue - I've never had to deal with one, but have read quite a few posts about them, and they're almost always characterized by the type of electrical weirdness you're describing. I would get into the dealer and see if they agree - if they're stumped, offer it as a suggestion for them to look into.

Hope you get things sorted fast!

Hello Dave,

Yes, I took him to the dealer and that is what they "think," it is, they did a diagnosis but couldn't figure it out 100% for some reason so no diagnosis charge, which would have been $250 more. They are getting it done as we speak so hopefully that is the only thing I need replaced because it is somewhat expensive $650 part, labor, and programming. I will update this later in case any one has similar problem in the future, just to confirm if it was just bcm or more

Thanks for your response,

Jose C.

Jose, could you give us an update? I'm having similar issues with my '01 and would like to know if you found a cure to your problems.

Thanks,

Dave

When my car started having all kinds of weird electrical problems and finally shut down completely, I took it to the dealer who thought it was the BCM, only to have a brand new BCM short out immediately on install.  Three weeks and multiple calls to GM later, they finally figured out it was some weird wiring issue in the ignition switch.
