Title: Bright lights come on when right turn signal is used.....
Post by: MinnAztek on March 29, 2017, 08:34:26 PM
....and it's really strange that it only does it when the headlights are on.

I just recently bought my 2001 Aztek about a week ago and I am SOOOO in love with it.  Minus about $880 for the car on Craigslist......and about $1300 in repairs later, I have found my dream car that I have always wanted, but I hope that someone else with some knowledge can tell me how to fix my little issue!

Thanks!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi MinnAztek, welcome to the AFC! I never had to deal with this myself, but a lot of the weird electrical issues that people have run into with their Teks end up coming down to a problem with the BCM (Body Control Module), particularly on 2001 and 2002 models. That would be my first suggestion to look at, although hopefully someone else who's had this issue will chime in.

Hope that helps a bit!

I was told this issue was the bcm also... It wasn't on my Aztek anyway. I replaced the turnsignal switch with a 29$ part from rock auto, there is a Buick rendezvous you tube video on YouTube, pretty easy to do yourself. Use all the screws are easy to reach but one. (after steering column cover us removed you tube video) break that one screw with the torx (star) bit with a zero clearance wrench then just do the rest by hand, grease the little pin before reinstall. I've noticed a lot of mechanics say bcm first.... Because that's more money took me 15 minutes but to be fair I'm an aftermarket installer.

I've had this problem for the last year or so, and it's slowly getting worse.
But, at least in my case, I don't think this has anything to do with the BCM or anything.
It's pretty obviously a mechanical issue in the signal arm switch assembly.

- It started off that sometimes my highbeams would come on as long as the right turn signal was on.  I found that I could get them to shut off if I wiggled the turn signal while it was flashing, but over the past year it's gotten worse and now the highbeams come back on as soon as I stop wiggling the arm.

- I also determined that this only happens with the headlights on, or if the DRL sensor determines that it's dark enough that they should be.  This issue never happens while driving with the headlights off on a sunny day, and I extrapolated that this is because highbeams are disabled during daylight.

I haven't dealt with this problem yet as there's always something else to fix, but it's gotten to the point that, after the signal has cancelled after the turn, the highbeams sometimes stay on until I jiggle the arm.  So, I'm going to have to address it soon.  My guess is that I'll solve the problem by replacing the signal arm assembly.
