2001 Pontiac Aztek (The Red Baron)

Why hasn't anybody with an 01 ever just painted their cladding black or color matched? People complain about it a lot but Idk why they don't just hit it with some Dupli-color.

People have painted the cladding many times, should be pictures in the gallery.  It has to be a very time consuming project though.

There's a few members here that have painted their claddings. And it is time consuming to paint, its the longest part of the job.  For me it takes about one hour to get the finish I have shown u all before in my threads.

I remember a person that owned a white 2001 that did that. Turned out really well. I'm not sure how long the paint held up, etc. Maybe we can dig up the old thread and PM them for a follow up?

Did they use a can or spray gun?

I would guess it was cans - not a "pro" (auto-body shop) spray-gun. Unless they knew someone with the tools. My brother has all the stuff from doing body work for years, not sure if the other person had a resource like that. I don't remember how the white aztek, that I can't really remember, Wink was done.

One item to consider would be the color fading too. Over time your cladding and body panels would probably differ. That is, unless the paint on the cladding is done as professional as possible. What about painting it another color? Have a two-tone Aztek? (Then you skip over the color match issue Grin)

Seems (to me) unless you really want to pour some time and money into this, another mod may be a better use of time/money.

Paint it chrome.  LOL.

OH YES... have the cladding chromed. Shocked WOW

That would be "retro" like - 50s chrome and fins, etc.... it would COST, but it would be COOL.
