2003 in Electric Blue

« on: July 13, 2016, 08:32:45 AM »

After 7 years of being hands-down my most favourite vehicle ever, the time has come to say goodbye to Blue at 171,333 KM - between the transmission, the AC condenser, brewing exhaust issues and a possible steering fluid leak (an approximate total of $4K-$5K CDN), I just can't justify keeping her, so we gotta let her go. We got our Tek in 2009 after my 11 year-old Subaru was totaled by an idiot making a blind left turn. I was trying to find a good family vehicle that wouldn't cost more than the money I was getting from insurance - a friend of mine said "What about an Aztek?", and my response was "F**k off, one of those things??". Fortunately, he insisted I go check out his buddy's, and I fell for it right away. Great ride, comfortable for the whole family and the dog, amazing cargo capacity (especially with the seats out) and a pretty kick-ass sound system. Heck, just last week I used it to bring home a new couch, that just slid right in the back :-). Add the cool tailgate (perfect for spontateous picnics), the removable cooler console and towing capacity that let me get a tent trailer and we were one happy family.

On top of all that, I found my way here to the AFC, and found a great community of friendly, helpful fellow Aztek owners who made me feel welcome, and who were of a huge help with different issues over the years. I want to say a big collective thanks for everything to all of you - and yeah, even though I won't have a Tek anymore, I'm sure I'll still be logging in once in a while.

So, today I make the change to a newer ride - found a mint-condition 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe with only 110K KM on it, 6-cylinder and (this is my fav part) it's a manual transmission :-). Only one owner, a senior dude, so very gently driven and while it's smaller, it's big enough to hold our now more grown-up family. We've had 5 great years with the tent trailer but with the kids being teenagers and not looking to camp with us as much, we're selling that and going back to tents, so the Santa Fe should hold all we need, especially with the roof racks. The only downside is that it's white (ugh), but it was such a good deal I can overlook that. Should hopefully take possession today, so I'll post a pic once I have her.

Happy Tekking!!

Well, it took me longer than expected, but here's a pic of the new ride :-).
