Title: wHaT dO yOu UsE?
Post by: GoddessShip on May 16, 2003, 12:52:26 PM
  I was wondering what everyone recommends in:
Washing - is your secret dish soap?
Waxing - baby diapers?
How do you get the break dusk off your wheels?
What product do you use to make your tires shine?
What is the best product to clean the inside and out of your windows?
What about getting stains out in your upholstery :toss: . . .etc. . . . .
What do you use that works and we can buy at our local stores.  Or if you creative people have some crazy recipe that works

For washing I usually use Turtle wax brand(won't strip wax). If I plan to use the clay bar I use Dawn dishwashing liquid to strip the wax. I dry it off using a synthetic chamois.

For waxing, I use mostly Meguires Products and Mothers Clay bar.  I clay bar first, then Meguires cleaner wax, then Meguires Showglaze.Buffing off with Microfiber cloth(from Wal-Mart,it gets all the residue)-bling bling shine:lol:  I've heard alot of good things about Zaino Bros. sealant, but you can only buy it through the mail or a zaino dealer which are few and far between.

For Tires, I use Turtle Wax tire wax-this stuff shines good lasts a long time, plus it won't leave black splattler marks on your paint if you drive off after applying it.

For windows, Eagle One 20/20-this stuff is great

I clay bar and wax my wheels so the brake dust comes off when I wash it, I use a different wash mit and bucket for the wheels(brake dust bad for paint)

Hi . I usually wash the GTP with Armor all car wash, then, Mother's California clay bar if the paint gets rough.  Then 2 coats of Zaino for a very sexy feel :blol: . Then Black magic super wet on the tires, and Armor all low-gloss on all the fantastic plastic.
Of course, now my new Tek will get the same beauty treatment.

See ya.

 my baby only gets touched with Meguires all around. I use the rubber /vinyl cleaner on the cladding, the quick wax, quick detailer and all the rest on the body. Interior dash gets a good soaking with armorall and when the cladding is done cleaned with the meguires I use up more armorall on there also to keep the shine in. I use the black magic tire wet on the tires too after a good spray out with the power washer to get the dust out from behind em.

What does everyone use on the black trim on the outside of car?
On my old Chevy I used Armor All on the outside and the sun faded the black  - I am afraid to use it on my Azzy.  I actually use Simoniz Spray Shine on all my black trim.  It shines for a while.  The only bad thing is there isn't alot of Simoniz brand on the shelves.  My boyfriend "borrows" it for me at the car wash he works at.  It is the only think I will trust so far.  Any suggestions?

Again I have to say Mothers (Proud Sponsor of the 2002 Aztek Owners Rally)

BACK-TO-BLACKŪ

As your ride's exterior ages, rubber, plastic and vinyl exterior hardware of all colors will dry, crack, flake and deteriorate. This oxidation can be stopped and reversed with MothersŪ Back-to-BlackŪ, our favorite auto-care concoction. This trim treatment is great for all sorts of exterior hardware in all colors-bumpers, molding, louvers, window trim, vents, seals, skirts, door handles, wiper arms-anything that's plastic, rubber or vinyl. Apply Back-to-BlackŪ to sun-burnt plastic, rubber and vinyl to revive the factory-new sheen, then re-treat that exterior hardware regularly.

I really like those gas station "Free with fill-up" automatic car washes. I like the way the stiff bristles beats the daylights out of the car. Sometimes you get an extra treat when the CB antenna it ripped off of someone elses car is wrapped up in the brushes and beats little holes into the plastic cladding. Those little blue bristles sticking out of your moulding after the wash are a bonus too!

Friends and neighbors, this is an easy and inexpensive way to customize your tek in about 5 minutes! :lolu:

When I need a quick wash in-between the hand wash I use nothing but brushless systems!

Yes, AVOID the brush car washes, they suck! Touchless is the way to go if you value your paint job.
Greg, I'm gonna try that back to black stuff.

tanktek,
I use Meguires Natural Shine for the interior. I isn't too glossy, has a nice smell and isn't greasy like armor all. Plus, the more applications the shinier it gets. I used it for the black exterior trim too. I doesn't get the orange discoloration streaks like armor all does especially with tires.

The next wash I do will be with Einszett wash and wax. My brother gave me some for my birthday. It is the only product that touches his Passat. I'll give it a try and let you all know.

I've been using Armor All wipes on the cladding and they work pretty good. They keep overspray from a bottle off the paint. I'll have to give the back-to-black a try sometime.

I tried the wipes once (once being the operative word) and was not pleased. It left alot of lent pieces all over the cladding!

Simple Green makes wipes too. That's what I use to clean the interior plastic. I haven't noticed any lint from them.

Thanks 0aztek3 I'll give the meguires natural shine a try as soon as I find some. I'm about out of my detailer spray so I guess I'll be making a stop this weekend for some.

I like to use meguires gold class wax and soap.i been using it on my bonneville since new "99" and the paint still looks shiny as the day we picked her up. ^_^

I used to swear by Gold Class-It does give a fantatic shine, it would make my white Impala gleam. It didn't seem to last too long though(water stop beading). So I tried Meguires "professional" Mirror Glaze wax(#23 I think, yellow bottle) and this stuff shines at least as well and lasts alot longer in my experience.

Personally I don't like the wipes because it gets all over my hands.  I like to use the wad of paper towel or rag.

Thank you for the suggestions -  I went out yesterday trying to find all of these great things to clean my car with.  Of course right before I was going to wax it I got pooped on!

I noticed in the dealership topic you mentioned that your Tek often comes back from the dealer with scratches on it.  I would recommend "Finesse It" from 3M to remove these scratches.  It can be hard to find but it works great.

If you get wax on the black parts, Peanut Butter works great to take it off. I prefer Jiffy. :P

TO add to 03's
Peanut butter [not chunky] does work,, but only uses the oils in the peanuts to hide the wax

One of the things I found for the wax on the cladding is a
white drafting eraser>>> just erase your mistakes away

I have an orbital sander with some 60 grit sand paper that not only gets the extra wax off, but also gets those dried off bugs off the front!

LOL!

TEkDAVE - What does "Finesse It" do for scratches?  You said it is hard to find, were do you find it?

I am glad everyone is giving their recommendations to what they use because if someone swears buy using a specifice product I am definetly going to go and use it - Like Mothers Back to Black.  Usually I wouldn't spend money on that because I am always afraid to buy it and it doesn't work as good as the picture on the bottle looks. Since I know it is a great product I am definetly going to buy it.

I used to use Meguires "professional" Mirror Glaze wax on my car models paint - I never thought I using it on my car.  I will try that.  I usually use GOLD CLASS, if my boyfriend doesn't take it to his work (a carwash, part time) and uses their NEW wax they just get in.  Some have Teflon in them or some are suppose to make the "wet" look.  But anyway  . . .

"Finesse It" is an automotive rubbing compound designed for painted surfaces.  According to 3M it "Quickly and effectively removes minor scratches, producing a brilliant, deep, wet look shine. For best results use by machine."  I had a 4" scratch on my Tek and I used a buffer and Finesse It to completely remove it.  You can no longer even see it was there.  3M markets this product to detail shops directly so it is not normally in auto parts stores.  I bought mine directly from 3M (www.3m.com) through their website.  I was told you could also buy it directly from auto paint suppliers.  It cost me $12 for one bottle but it did work as advertised.

3M Finesse It (http://www21.3m.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry24?SP=10023&PN=1&V1=267722&xid=28181&search_id=12886354&doc_id=1&DSP=&CUR=840&PGRP=0&CACHE_ID=0)

It's always nice to have someone help you clean the Tek!
Last time I did a complete inside/out job it took me 2 hours! I did not wax it or anything, just a good washing, windows, tires, vacuum and clean up inside.

Unfortunately with 2 kids, the car doesn't stay as clean as I would like it, but I certainly try! :)

I wouldn't know what it would be like to have a car that didn't have sticky hand and finger prints on the rear windows, crayons and crayon wrappers on/under the rear seats, candy wrappers in the door pockets, coloring books, paper with doodle art crumpled up under the seats and match box cars rolling around as I make turns.

I gave up trying to keep my car as clean as I would like it. Just wait till my son has his own car! I'm going to leave all kinds of trash in it.  :blol:

There is rules in Aunties Car - No gum, food, drink, stickers for my Niece.   She puts everything on the floor, just drops it.  She is getting a bit better because I give her a speach all the times she comes into my car and wants a drink or bring anything. Willow, my niece pretty much can tell you the speach by herself!  She is a cutie!
Some of my friends used to leave their crap on the floors not clap their feet before entering so I have installed a thick clear plastic in the back on the floor.  It has come in handy.  I also give them a speach too.  I cannot believe people would be so careless.

I have found that I am more fanatical about my car than a few people I know.
I have a 17 year old Cadillac that looks better than a friends 4 year old mini van.

I cannot imagine being as careless with my Tek as some people are with their own cars. So if they don't respect their own vehicle, they certainly aren't going to treat mine any different.

Had to ride with a co-worker the other day & what a mess in her car.  The entire passenger side front was filled with empty water bottles & other trash as high as the seat.  She said "Don't Laugh!"  That isn't what I wanted to do.  I wanted to take a shower after riding in her car.

 My sister has a 02 Kia and it looks like an 10 year old car.  My niece uses it as a trash can.  It is horrible, I also feel like I need to take a shower after I get out of that thing.  Her car is beaten to crap, internally and externally.   B) My niece always behaves with me though, she listens and is always good.  My secret is when she is with me she is also in Auntie Marsha's Boot Camp. HA HA HA :D  :D Don't feel bad for her she might be 3 1/2 years old, but she is the same height, weight, and her brain has developed to a 5-6 year olds, shes no dumby.   :lolu:
