So I know some of you have used or are using non AZTEK air matresses for your 'Teks.... what size do you use?

I also heard that someone (I think it's Scott...?) is using a futon mattress? How is that going and how is the transporting of such done?

Any other ideas? I was planning on making a giant "pillow case" with zipper to put the mattress into, so as to help lengthen it's life (I'm sure the Roll-Out Tray tie downs are hell on them and also Fur-kid's nails)

Char, you can buy a futon cover to put over the air mattress maybe. They are just like you said, a giant pillowcase with zipper.

I would think it would be best to take out the cargo tray bracket thingys before putting the mattress in maybe?

Ive used the futon in the tek. Its fits snuggly against the side walls and you will never have to worry about waking up in the middle of the night hearing a slow leak. Plus its tons warmer than a cold ole air mattress. I just fold it in two ,pop it in the back and load the cargo on top of it. Ive never even opened the bag that the original tek matress came in.

Yes you can remove them but underneath of them, the carpet is cut out so you will be looking at metal and the holes that the bolts thread into.

What size? I have a full, and if that'd fit in there that would be so awesome.

I didnt even know there was more than one size of futon. That probly is the right size though. You could give it a test fit and see. I dont have the slightest idea what size mine is since I got it from a rummage sale.

I think it would either be full or queen for a futon.
Measurements for full are 54x75 and queen is 60x80.

Full is pretty standard for a futon mattress.

I think a full size would be best- thats what I have in my living room and by eyeballing it I think it would be right.

My question is though, with the futon mattresses...don't they take up a HECK of a lotta room during transport?  Sure it would be comfy and all but kinda bulky...?

Just leave it flat. So what if your floor is 5" higher.
