I HAVE AN 04 PONTIAC AZTEK.THE LIGHT BURNED OUT BEHIND THE ODOMETER SOME TIME AGO,AND NOW THE LIGHT ON THE CD PLAYER BURNED OUT.ITS REALLY A STRAIN TO TRY TO SEE WHAT TIME IT IS,OR WHAT NUMBER THE BASE,TREBLE,AND MIDRANGE ARE.I ALSO HAD THE FEATURE THAT ON SOME RADIO STATIONS,I COULD SEE WHAT THE NAME OF THE SONG WAS PLAYING AND WHO SUNG IT.I REMEMBER HOW EXCITED I WAS WHEN I NOTICED I HAD THIS FEATURE,I OFTEN WOULD HERE SONGS I LIKED IN THE CAR,BUT NEVER COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS.FROM WHAT I BEEN READING,IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE SOMEONE COULD JUST FIX THE RADIO LIGHTS? IS THERE ANY WAY POSSIBLE TO FIX THE BURNT OUT RADIO LIGHTS AT ALL? AND IF NOT,I WAS TOLD THERE WERE 6 CD PLAYERS FOR THE 04 AZTEK,AND A FEW OF THEM LOOK IDENTICAL.IF I WOULD DECIDE TO REPLACE IT,HOW WOULD I KNOW WHICH ONE TO GET?ALSO,WOULD ANY OTHER PONTIAC FACTORY RADIO MAYBE WORK IN MY CAR?IF IM GOING TO HAVE TO GET ANOTHER RADIO,IT WOULD MAKE MORE SCENSE TO UPGRADE TO A BETTER SOUNDING SYSTEM.THEN A HEARD THINGS ABOUT A DING MODULE! I WOULD WANT EVERYTHING TO WORK THAT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK.MY CAR ALSO HAS A MOUNTED DVD PLAYER,WHERE YOU LOAD THE DVD INTO THE UNIT BENEATH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.AND IS IT POSSIBLE TO GO BUY A STEREO FROM WALMART IF I HAD TO? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED,THANKS

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but is there a way you could re-type that without using caps lock?

lol, he's just excited to be on the AFC  Grin

I think the general consensus is that the radio and dash bulbs are not really replaceable. I believe they are all tiny incandescent bulbs soldered directly to the boards.

I have an '04 with the 6-disk pioneer sound system and I think it sounds pretty kick-a**.  Swapping for the 6-disk should be a simple plug-and-play swap but I may be wrong (doubtful).

If it is that bothersome, I would just upgrade to the 6-disk; it would be the easiest thing and will still retain your door chimes and steering wheel controls (if you have those).  Upgrading your HU won't do a whole lot in terms of sound quality if you don't upgrade your speakers anyways.

generally, it would have a higher output. But you are right, it won't do a whole lot.

OP- you will need new speakers powered by an external amp if you want better sound quality.

Agreed, on the whole caps lock thing. Ouch me eyes  Shocked

WOW, so hypothetically I could just replace my stereo and get 6 whole discs of change !! Oh so tempting..

the 6 disc changer is cool, but I switched it out for a head unit that I can control my iPod from. Look at the Pioneer 6200-BT

sorry about the caps on.i got used to writing anything online that way because the words are bigger so i can see them better.so from what all of you are saying,as far as getting the radio lights to work,i cant! the only option i have is to replace the cd player? so will any other aztek cd player work?what about other pontiac radios, like a sunfire? most of the pontiac radios i have seen look like they would fit in the spot,or does it have to be only from an 04 aztek to work in my car?i called the local junkyard and they want $150 for a factory cd player, then its going to cost another $50 to have the pontiac dealer program it.

FYI - the right hand side of my original radio was without a light for at least 2 years. One day, a couple of months ago, while waiting at a traffic light, I tried tapping it a couple of times with my finger and all of a sudden, the light came back on! - so far, it's still working for me.

I replaced the lights in my head unit by taking the face off, and replacing it with a new face unit. I got it off ebay, but I havent seen one on their in forever..

It was simple too.. A couple bolts, a wiring harness, a couple clips, done.

The only thing offered now is to take your head unit out, send it to a repair shop, and they fix whatever is wrong. But 145 bucks, for a light bulb? I bought a replacement radio for that much!

Such as this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pontiac-Aztek-factory-6-disc-CD-player-radio-10317030-/120721807496?pt=Car_Audio_In_Dash_Receivers&hash=item1c1b949888

Just would need to reprogram the VIN, and you would be off and running, with a 6 disc!

I've done some looking and it would appear that the stereo out of the Sunfire is the same model.  Can anyone verify that this is the same stereo?  It sure would be a heck of a lot easier to find a sunfire stereo than an aztek stereo.

i also would like to know if a sunfire stereo would work.but like the one poster said,if you really can just change the faceplate? then that sounds like the best and easiest thing to do by far!so in other words,if i can just find a different faceplate, not the whole stereo, then all i have to do is take the old one off,and put the new one on? then the lights would work? and i wouldnt have to visit the pontiac dealer to pay $50 to have it programmed?

Often when you disconnect the battery or unplug the actual radio, it thinks that you are stealing it, and locks it out so that it can't be used again without unlocking it first.  I don't know if the sunfire one will work sorry I can't help you there.
