Easy logic.

The old lady was swerving, but it was the day time so she can't possibly be drunk.

Dukat passed over the speed limit.  Speeding ticket = $$$$$$ = promotion

but the cop that wrote the ticket, offers to back him up in court-  there's the oddity

No
possibility of drunkness = less than 10%
Possibility of being high on medications = greater than 80%

I would think that the "Do not operate Machinery" bit would be applicable as Driving Under the Influence.

Oddly enough, I was pulled over bout a month ago for my underglows. I was taking my friend home (bout an hour away on the highway) and I had them on. It was about 1am when he pulled me over. I was all yes sir, no sir, we were cooperative, and I told him I had them on because
a. more light = easier for other drivers to see me at night
and b. they're cool

he agreed with me on both parts, had me get out to explain why he stopped me. In the back the light bounces off my chrome exhaust tips and because of that "from a distance could look like a light and be mistaken for an emergency vehicle".

Let me go with a warning

Glad he let you go. He just wanted to check out the coolest aztek in town.

I got pulled over a looonngg time ago in my cavalier that I had night rider lights in. He gave me a warning for that because of the same thing.

Man, that's weak... They should have said to just keep them off on the highway as they could be a distraction. In the dim/dark and at-a-glance anything could be mistaken for an emergency vehicle - or anything else one could dream up. Gee whiz!

I can just picture you saying that in the Tek driver seat... "B. They're cool"    CLASSIC!

He did compliment them saying he liked them. "But only when you're off road showing your buddies". When I asked about not getting a ticket (I never get warnings) he replied with "I'm not that big of a dick". Now in my re-telling of the story I put the emphasis on that big....he could have just ignored them like every other copper has done in the past
